Tools for Dynamic
Database Publishing.
This section will gives you information about a number of dynamic DBP tools.
The features used in the different cells are first explained:
Search function
This function, if available, allows the visitor to search through the
database/web pages by typing in a keyword.

Relational Database:
This feature allows the publisher to link multiple databases with
related fields to one site.

Split up record:
If you can split up a record, you can show part of a record on one page
and the rest on the other. e.g. program and type on one and full details
of a program on another page. If it is not available, the whole record
will be shown on one page with all the fields used.

Dynamic Databases:
This indicates that the program does (also) support Dynamic Database
Publishing. If it is not supported, the program only support Static
Database Publishing.

Webserver required:
If a web server is required, it is not possible to test the pages
locally if no personal web server is available.
|
Customisability:
The higher the customisability the more the user can change the
appearance of the pages generated. Low customisability e.g. only allows
changing of colours, while high customisability also alows layout
changes, etc.

Pictures supported:
If available, this feature allows you to publish a picture as part of a
record.

Ease of use:
High ease of use requires no prior knowledge from the user in order to
use the tools. A low ease of use will require, e.g. scripting knowledge.
|
Rating:
The rating is a mark between 1 and 10 given to the tool by us. Is
indicates how we value the full package of features provided by the tool,
keeping in mind the cost, ease of use, etc. If there is no mark present,
the package is not yet fully rated. The rating will then follow later.

| This is a tool with endless possibilities.
It requires more knowledge and practise to use it. You will have to
build expressions in order to have the user interact with the database.
Baserunner works as an extension to HTML, providing new tags and
processing directives that enhance your web design by giving you easy
access to dynamic content. This makes it an relatively easy to use
tool. For personal use it is free, for commercial use a small fee is
asked. But in our opinion this should not stop you from using it. It
is excellent once you get the hang of it. |

| This tool alows you to publish any ODBC
compliant database to the web. The tool is extremely easy to use. It
gives you many of the advantages of Dynamic Databases but does not
require many skills or effort to publish it. Because of this
combination of features and ease of use the customisability is
somewhat lower than we would have hoped for. Also the more advanced
features are not present, but for most websites the offer is very
suitable and it is definately a tool that you can use yourself, even
if your not a IT fanatic. |

What I needed to do was build a members log in area for a web site that the user could update as new people joined. He wanted this done in two days. With not much time I downloaded this software and had the lot done in under 3 min. Normal time for this would be about 5 days and even then you would still be debuging your scripts.
